LA Connection Property Blog: Pinkberry - Swirly Goodness .... the new Frozen Yoghurt Sensation

Pinkberry - Swirly Goodness .... the new Frozen Yoghurt Sensation

There's a new Frozen Yogurt sensation that began in a small shop in West Hollywood and has now grown to be an overwhelming success throughout Los Angeles - it's called Pinkberry.

Pinkberry is a simple yet extremely delicious product: basic frozen yogurt served with toppings of your choice. At first they only served the "original" flavor, a natural slightly sour yogurt and green tea, but have recently coffee as well.

The choice of toppings include fruits like strawberry, pineapple, and kiwi fruit, and other toppings include chocolate chips, shaved almonds, granola and coco pebbles.

The yogurt is made with with skim milk and non-fat yogurt with active and live cultures (that may not sound appealing but apparently it's healthy for you).

Pinkberry is a great concept and there's often lines outside their stores, yet there are already a number of copy-cat stores that have opened and closed without success. It seems like the business plan is to go National and the franchise has now progressed to New York - so it will be interesting to see how the product takes off there. Could this be the next Starbucks?

I had Pinkberry for the first time a couple weeks ago - they just opened one not too long ago in downtown San Diego.  I had the coffee with chocolate morsels and I have to admit, it didn't taste anything like I had expected it to.  It was almost too "yogurt" tasting...mixed with coffee.  I probably won't order it again but I'd like to try the other two flavors before I say I'm not a big fan of the place.  I think they are heading in the right direction: they definitely have a high-end "boutique" feel (reminds me a lot of LA for some reason) and the service was excellent (they ask you if you've ever been to a Pinkberry before and offer free samples as soon as you walk in).  It will be interesting to see how successful they truly become...

I, on the other hand, love the yogurty tang of Pinkberry. Cold, refreshing, not too sweet. I prefer the original (vanilla?) flavor with mixed fresh fruit and berries on top. Yummm. I would like to think that it is good for me, but probably not so much according to my scale. They recently opened one in Pasadena, so I don't have to drive all the way to Melrose to get my fix.

Kevin / Michelle - I also prefer the original with almonds and strawberries.

There's another new sensation in Los Angeles called "Sprinkles" - they sell the most decadently delicious cupcakes, and people stand in long lines to get their "fix".

Stewart, I've heard of Sprinkles before.  I think I saw something on TV about them.  Another rage in the LA area!  Almost like Pink's hotdogs....who would thinks people would stand in line for a hotdog???

Kevin - Whenever I drive past Pinks I grin when I see the crowd lining up for a hotdog!

Wow...eat a Pink's hotdog and a Sprinkle's cupcake all in one day and you've already met your 2000 calorie limit! LOL
