Last month I blogged about Tesla - the all-electric car manufacturer. I was impressed by their first mass-produced highway-capable electric vehicle, the Tesla Model S.
Yesterday, Reuters reported as follows: Los Angeles (Reuters) - Electric car start-up Tesla Motors Inc. has slashed production costs for its flagship Roadster sports car by 43 percent to about $80,000 per vehicle as of June, its chief executive said on Monday.
This is great news for this fledgling company that is pioneering mass produced electric cars.
Additional good news was announced last month - German luxury car maker Daimler (Mercedes Benz) paid about $50 Million for a 10 percent stake in Tesla.
I predict Tesla is going to be huge success ....!

still not quite mainstream! I think I have seen this car, a pretty exotic high performance electric if I remember ?
The TESLA does look very promising. An all elctric high performance sports roadster. Its a little too pricey for the average Joe. The technology will benefit everybody though.
Don't forget that the #2 automaker in the world has an electric car about ready for production as well. If the government/,management of GM see fit, then the Chevy Volt could be on the market soon. I seem to remember that they were looking at a price tag around $30-40,000.
Should be great...like the idea of the roadster design, too!
That is an amazing car. Pretty bold to be asking $5k upfront at this point, but all the power to them. Exciting times to come. The speed of that puppy...... Wow.
Hi Stewart. Tesla is certainly a solid name for a car company...
I will look forward to hearing more about this car.
Thanks for writing,
Ken
Stewart, I hope it is a great success as well!
Hmmm, let's see the last company that Daimler bought into was.....oh yea, Chrysler. Hope they do a better job with this one.
Kathy - As a matter of fact Daimler sold Chrysler in May 2007.
The current owner is Cerberus Capital Management, a private equity firm in New York.
ELECTRIC CARS....!!! Tesla may have been pleased with the product bearing his name. ...at least THIS time "they" who once scrapped them may not....we shall see...
Flagstaff was so disappointed when Telsa decided to locate it's plant in New Mexico instead of here!
It's the wave of the future Stewart and the prices will come down. I remember my first 286 computer which cost a fortune. Now I have more capacity in my wristwatch!
